While there are common health problems for both genders, men have a few that women don’t. Many of these men’s health problems involve the male pelvic area.
Stress or urge incontinence
Stress incontinence is when you pee a little (or a lot) when you sneeze, cough, laugh, run or do other activities. It is annoying and can be a big enough problem to interfere with your everyday life. Urge incontinence is what happens when you have an urge to go to the bathroom. It can happen when you think about urinating, or with running water. The urge can be so great that you can’t get undressed fast enough when in the bathroom. Physical therapy can help you regain control of the muscles.
The opposite problem
Of course, the opposite problem is an inability to urinate, bladder pain, or general pelvic pain. All of these have a few different causes, but can all be helped with physical therapy. Whether it’s problems with the musculature or some other issue, physical therapy can definitely help improve your situation.
Another issue that physical therapy can assist? Constipation. It’s not just an issue that can be treated with laxatives or drinking a lot of water. Sometimes it’s an issue that has to do with the muscles and surrounding tissues.
Post surgery
If you’ve had a prostatectomy and are having a lot of pain post surgery, it could be adhesions that could be helped with physical therapy. There could be other reasons that are causing the pain. Many of them can be addressed with physical therapy.
Other issues
Other issues such as pelvic floor myalgia or muscle spasm or pain with ejaculation are also highly treatable and effectively so with physical therapy.
