Every 18 seconds an older adult is in the emergency room being treated for a fall…don’t let a fall get you down. Check out our Freedom From Falling Program!
To this day, My Grandmother was the “Spunkiest” women I have ever met. She was so full of life. Boogie boarding with us grandkids when she was in her 60’s, playing Jeopardy on the computer with us up until 70 (although she didn’t quite push the button in time, but would still blurt out the answer so I would end up getting all the points!) And when she tried skiing for the first time in her late 60’s, amazing!
When she was 70, I was devastated when she fell and broke her hip. She had to have her hip replaced, but don’t worry, that didn’t stop her, When the Doctor gave her a device to help her pick things up off the floor, she used it to pinch people in the butt! After her surgery, she was still “Spunky”, but she had also become very fragile and very unstable. And unfortunately, that just got worse as she got older. I wanted to freeze time. I wanted to keep that picture of my grandmother boogie boarding forever!
Back then there weren’t really many programs for seniors. No Silver Sneakers, no senior centers, no special art programs. Fortunately, today there are more programs developing to help people like my grandma. We wanted to join in the effort to keep the seniors in our community moving and functional so we started our Freedom From Falling Program.
